September flew on by & now I find myself thinking about Christmas!
Last month was quite fun, we did a bit of research into the Enigma code breaking story & this then triggered an interest into what Pearl Harbour was about, I love having these conversations with G & E, the way it’s ok to go off topic and ask a question because you’re curious about something.
The ixl.com maths programme is working out well too, Grace has taken to doing a bit extra when she feels like it. I get a weekly progress report for them both, showing which areas have been mastered and what needs working on a bit more
We have just finished The Outsiders! It’s a brilliant book, I can’t believe that the author was only 15 years old when she started writing it! We also watched the film adaptation, which surprisingly stayed true to the book!
Next up is Stone Cold by Robert Swindells before moving on to Robert Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men.
For this month I guess we’ll carry on as usual, for History we’ll study Greeks, science will be about Acids, do some more baking, carry on with the PowerPoint presentations that they’re both doing on Minecraft and also continue with the guitar playing!
Both G & E have signed up to do a short online course about how we learn through video gaming, sounds a bit ‘mickey mouse’ but having looked at what’s involved for the first assignment, I think this will really help stretch their minds a bit! Grace starts a course to do with child development at the end of the month and Eddie has signed up to do a course where he learns how to design & publish his own android app, but this starts early next year!
All in all it’s been a good month, my goal for this month is to try & get hold of more information about the EPIC student scheme that is run at our local FE college for 14-16 year olds, I can’t find any information online so it could be time for me to go knocking on doors!!!!
